Issues : Errors in EE

b. 1

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

..

In GC (→GE1) and EE there is no  returning f at the beginning of the 2nd group of semiquavers of the introduction, which almost certainly corresponds to the notation of [A]. It is a very typical mistake of Chopin – cf., e.g., the Nocturne in Cminor, Op. 27 No. 1, bar 83, or the Impromptu in A major, Op. 29, bar 71. The sign was added in the proofreading of FE, most probably by Chopin, as well as in GE2 (→GE3).

b. 52

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

 in GC (→GE), FE & EE3

No sign in EE1 (→EE2)

..

The missing  hairpins in EE1 (→EE2) is almost certainly an inaccuracy of notation – it was either Chopin that forgot to add them in the base text or the engraver who overlooked them.

b. 57-58

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

No fingering in GC (→GE), FE & EE1

Fingering in EE2 (→EE3)

..

There are no grounds to consider the fingering of EE2 (→EE3) – otherwise very natural – to be authentic. The fifth finger on f in bar 58 is undoubtedly a mistake (it was meant to be the fourth).
