b. 1-3

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

No pedalling in GC (→GE), FE & EE

Pedalling written into FES

Our variant suggestion

..

The pedalling of FES is written with a hand of a pupil, yet one can believe that it corresponds to the indications coming from Chopin. Similarly in bar 5.

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

No grace note in GC (→GE), FE & EE

Grace note in FED

Our variant suggestion

..

The grace note indicating the manner of beginning the trill – from the top note – was written by Chopin in FED. Similarly in analogous bar 51.

b. 8

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

Fingering written into FED

Fingering written into FES

No teaching fingering

Our variant suggestion

..

In fact, the numerals written into FED and FES can be treated jointly, yet, most probably, they indicate different fingering of the first five semiquavers:

  • 5-4-3-2-1 in FED,
  • 3-2-1-3-1 or 4-3-1-3-1 in FES.

b. 11-12

composition: Op. 25 No 7, Etude in C♯ minor

Fingering written in FES

No teaching fingering

..

The fingering is written with the pupil's hand, most probably in the place of the less legible, pencilled fingering written by Chopin (cf. bars 13 and 14).
