b. 69-70

The  sign in GC is written under the fcrotchet, yet between the rests in the L.H. However, the fact of writing it between, and not under the staves, clearly suggests that it refers to the part of the R.H. Unfortunately, it does not completely solve the issue of its location, as the crotchet ending the run was initially written strictly over the 1st rest in the L.H. and then deleted and written again slightly later (the first version was erroneously written as d4). Hence, if Chopin had written this pedalling before correcting this note, the  sign is to be placed after it, but if the order of corrections was reversed – under it. According to us, the second possibility is much more likely, it is even possible that Chopin noticed the copyist's error, attempting to write an asterisk ending this four-bar pedal. Moreover, the interpretation is closer to the interpretation of Chopin pedalling in base texts to EE and FE.
