Quaver in A

Crotchet in FE (→GE1,EE), 1st instance only

Crotchet in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

Chopin added a crotchet stem in the L.H. to the g quaver in the proofreading of FE1. The absence of this correction in the analogous bar in the written repetition in the editions most probably results from Chopin's oversight. We directly include this minor improvement in the main text, which corresponds to both analogous bars in the first editions. An addition was respectively performed in the bar being a repetition of bar 7 also in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5).

b. 9

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

..

The  indication, appearing in the repetition of bar 9 next to the G1-G octave in the L.H., in all editions, undoubtedly results from a misinterpreted correction of Chopin in A. While correcting the erroneous  indication, the composer overwrote a pedal's release sign on it (after all, too late). In GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5 was additionally arbitrarily changed to . The first indication could have been removed by Chopin in the proofreading of FE1. The absence of a respective correction in the analogous bar in the repetition is undoubtedly an oversight of Chopin or of the engravers.

b. 12

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

..

The repetition of bars 1-12 is marked in A with a conventional repetition sign. In turn, in FE (→GE,EE), due to purely editorial reasons (division into pages), the bars are written a second time, which erroneously indicates to perform them twice also at the time of repeating this section da Capo.

The c1-e1 third in the L.H. in FE (→GE1,EE1) is written monophonically the first time. The mistake was corrected in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) & EE2 by adding a quaver stem to the top note; at the same time, a small unnecessary fragment of the stem was not removed, combining two note heads on their left side.
