Slurs

b. 4-5

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

..

In GE1, the first time, the slur begins erroneously already from the quaver rest in bar 4. The defect was corrected in GE2. In turn, in GE3 (→GE4GE5), also the first time, its beginning was arbitrarily moved, placing it over the 1st note in bar 5.

b. 7

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Slur from 2nd beat in A (→FEGE1,EE)

Slur from first beat in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

..

In GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) the beginning of the slur was arbitrarily moved over the 1st note of the bar, where the previous slur simultaneously ends. Similarly in bar 32.

b. 9

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

..

The slur over the triplet, written by Chopin in A, may be considered a phrasing element. FE (→GE1,EE) features this slur only in the repetition. In turn, in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) the revisers treated it as an indication of an irregular group - placing it in both places only over the digit and shortening it accordingly.

b. 22-23

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Beginning of the slur in A

Beginning of the slur in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The slur in FE (→GE,EE) starts from the 1st note of the bar. It is most probably an inaccuracy of the engraver. As the slur of FE does not bear traces of Chopin's proofreading, in the main text we adhere to the notation of A, in which it starts from the 2nd note of the L.H.

b. 24-27

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Continuous slur in A (→FEEE)

New slur from bar 27 in GE1

New slur from 2nd beat of bar 26 in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

..

The phrasing slur at the transition to a new line between bars 26 and 27 was erroneously broken in GE1. In GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) the moment of the slur's division was moved two crotchets earlier. Although such a division of the slur is pianistically justified, it was deleted by Chopin in A (one can see a connection of the slurs in this place).
