Hairpins in A

Hairpins in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In the main text we keep the beginning of the hairpins in accordance with Chopin notation in A. In all editions the hairpins start already under the 1st note of this bar.

Staccato dot in A

..

In A Chopin undoubtedly wrote a staccato dot over the 1st quaver in the R.H. The sign was most probably overlooked by the engravers of FE and by Chopin in the proofreading.

c3 & b2 tied in A (→FEGE1,EE)

No ties in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

..

The fact of leaving the ties sustaining c3 and b2 in FE (→GE1,EE) may result both from an inaccurate proofreading of Chopin and a careless implementation of his notes by the engraver. The revisers of GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) deleted the ties, most probably after comparison with analogous bar 45, which was corrected by the composer.

A1 & A in A

A1 & A 1 in FE (→GE,EE)

A & A1 suggested by the editors

..

The fact of leaving A1 as the 1st note in the L.H. in FE (→GE,EE) is to be considered to be either an inaccuracy of the engraver at the time of implementing Chopin proofreading or an oversight of Chopin himself. Therefore, we suggest adopting to the main text an A, included in analogous, corrected by the composer bar 45.

2 slurs in A

2 slurs in FE (→GE1,EE)

1 slur in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

..

Differently than in analogous bars 52-53, the engraver of FE inserted here two slurs - the first in bar 84 and the second in bar 85. GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) includes one phrasing slur for the last two bars, which is most probably a result of the reviser having compared the notation in analogous bars 52-53.
