Staccato dot in A

..

The absence of the staccato dot for the 1st quaver in all editions is undoubtedly an oversight of the engraver, resulting from the inaccuracy of notation of A.
See bar 20.

Beginning of the slur in A

Beginning of the slur in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The slur in FE (→GE,EE) starts from the 1st note of the bar. It is most probably an inaccuracy of the engraver. As the slur of FE does not bear traces of Chopin's proofreading, in the main text we adhere to the notation of A, in which it starts from the 2nd note of the L.H.

Slur in A (contextual interpretation) & GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

Slur in FE (→GE1,EE)

..

In FE (→GE1,EE) the slur ends on the last note in bar 31. In similar bars 5-7, the slur is led to the 1st note of bar 7, which ends the phrase. A possible reason of the slur's shortening in the editions is the inaccuracy of notation of A, in which Chopin ended the slur just before the bar line between bars 31 and 32.

Slur in A (contextual interpretation) & in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

Slur in FE (→GE1,EE)

..

The slur of A, although poorly written, is most probably supposed to begin in the middle of the bar, together with the continuation of the melody of the top voice. However, in FE (→GE1,EE) the slur started erroneously already from the 1st note in bar 40. In GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) an accurate revision was performed, by writing the slur from the beginning of the triplet.
