b. 4-6

composition: Op. 10 No 4, Etude in C♯ minor

No fingering in AI & FE (→GE)

Fingering in EE

..

The fingering in EE was Fontana's addition. The fingering in bar 6 is contrary to the indications written in FES, probably by Chopin, in a pianistically similar place, in bar 20.

b. 7

composition: Op. 10 No 4, Etude in C♯ minor

4 slurs in AI

No slurs in FE (→GE,EE2)

Slur in EE3 (→EE4)

..

The missing slurs in FE (→GE,EE2) must be considered as inaccuracy here, hence in the main text we give the slurs of AI, in accordance with the slurring of the editions in bar 3. In EE3 (→EE4), the bar was embraced with one slur after analogous bar 57.

b. 11

composition: Op. 10 No 4, Etude in C♯ minor

No signs in AI & FE (→GE1,EE2)

Three arpeggio signs in GE1a (→GE2GE3GE4GE5) & EE4

Arpeggio sign in EE3

..

According to us, arpeggio performance of the tenth chords stands beyond any doubt – it is proved by Chopin sign in bar 3, left almost certainly as a general indication concerning all analogous situations.
