b. 40

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

..

In A (→FE) there is no  raising d2 to d2 on the 5th quaver and the  lowering g1 to g1 on the 11th quaver. These patent errors were corrected in GE and EE.

b. 42

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

No fingering in A (→FEGE)

Fingering in EE

..

Fontana's addition of the fingering in EE may be considered here as justified, as such a melodic phrase has not yet occurred in the Etude's current flow.

b. 42-43

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

No pedalling in A

 in FE (→GE1)

  in GE2 (→GE3GE4) & EE

Our suggestion

..

Lack of the pedal release mark depressed in the middle of bar 42 must be considered as the notation's inaccuracy in this context. The  mark was added in EE and GE2 (→GE3GE4) at the end of bar 42, which is undoubtedly justified with similar indications in the previous bars. We suggest a completion after the notation of A at the beginning of bar 44.

b. 45-46

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

No fingering in A (→FEGE)

Fingering in EE

..

Chopin's fingering given in the main text in bar 45 was completed by Fontana in EE with additional indications in this and the next bar. The additions, obvious from the pianistic point of view, include also bar 47.
