Slur in A (→FEGE,EE)

Our suggestion

The slurs in the repetition of the first phrase of the Etude (bars 9-16) seem to be less detailed in A. Chopin wrote the slurs only in bar 9 and analog. (except for bar 13), yet only in bar 14 the inaccurate slur may be considered as beginning from a1, as it is marked in the majority of cases in analogous bars of the first phrase (bars 1-8) and its repetition in the 2nd section of the Etude (bars 34-39). According to us, it is highly unlikely that in bars 9-16 Chopin had in mind a different performance, therefore, in all places (bars 9, 10, 13 and 14) in the main text we suggest slurs beginning from a1. It is worth mentioning that particularly in the cases where a(1) falls on the 3rd quaver of the bar, both notations – with a slur embracing this note or not – are generally equal, as the note is accentuated and there is no mark indicating a staccato performance.

In bars 10 and 11 A includes two serious errors in the notation of accidentals, which can confirm the thesis on a less detailed notation of this fragment.
