Issues : Authentic corrections of FE

The 4th page of A (bars 50-65) is less carefully written; in fact only two octaves in the R.H. (also among these being a part of the chords), requiring cautionary accidentals, are correctly written (the octave in bar 50 and the chord at the beginning of bar 55). The remaining 13 either do not have any accidentals (bars 55 and 65, discussed separately) or they have an accidental only next to one of the notes. In the editions all these patent oversights were completed. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors of A , Authentic corrections of FE |

In bar 52 and analogous bars 55, 56, 60 and 62 Chopin provided the part of the R.H. only with the slurs embracing particular triplets, independently from articulation and phrasing. Due to the fact that while proofreading FE, Chopin replaced these slurs with phrase marks in a few places (bars 52, 56 and 60), we assume that the described corrections intentionally refer to all similar fragments and that lack of relevant changes in the remaining bars is a result of an inaccurately implemented proofreading. However, it is possible that it was Chopin that wanted to limit himself to the essential minimum of the changes in the text reproduced by the engraver in accordance with the Stichvorlage. Cf. General Editorial Principles, p. 16. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Triplet slurs |

In the main text we give the fingering added by Chopin at the time of proofreading FE (→GE). This time Chopin wrote more digits than in analogous bar 15. We do not include detailed additions by Fontana in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |

Lack of the hold of the e1-e2 octave in A is most probably Chopin's mistake, corrected in FE (→GE,EE). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors of A , Authentic corrections of FE |
