..

In CLI there is no cautionary  before f1.

b3 in CLI & EE

c4 in FE (→GE)

..

The b3 note on the last semiquaver in CLI and EE seems to be a mistake – the copyist, or maybe the engraver, could have not realised the irregularity of figurations in this place. However, one cannot exclude that CLI transfers the original version of the note, while in EE we are dealing with an editorial revision. Cf. bars 5 and 53.

b. 30-37

composition: Op. 10 No 1, Etude in C major

..

Due to the lack of generally recognised rules concerning accidentals, the sources differ in this respect. However, the differences do not influence the interpretation of the text. The layout of the accidentals adopted in the main text can be found in GE4 (→GE5).

Tied B in CLI

Tied octave (original version)

B1 & octave in FE (→GE,EE

..

CLI has a sustained B as a bass note in these bars. This is the original version, moreover, it was almost certainly written with an error – same as in the adjacent bars, it was the B1-B octave that was supposed to be in this place (cf. e.g. bars 3 or 23-24).

No indication in CLI

 in FE (→GE,EE)

Our suggestion

..

In FE (→GE,EE) the  indication seems to be valid only from the semiquavers in the R.H. According to us, it is however highly unlikely for this indication not to include also the long resounding octave in the L.H. Therefore, we consider it as the notation's inaccuracy and in the main text we propose a relevant minor correction of the sign's placement. See also bar 45
