Minor differences in dynamic markings in the three last four-bar phrases of plainchant character may suggest a slightly different dynamic of this part, especially in GC and FE:
- in GC no in bars 518-520 or in b. 526 suggest the beginning of quitened anticipation right from the f-minor. It is perfectly toned in with the pendular motifs of phrases in bars 518-521 and 526-529 and topped up with smorzando in bars 534-539;
- the presence of in FE, with no additional nuances, postpones the begining of anticipation until b. 526, which is displayed by the appearance of d1 and immediately d notes specifying the harmonic function; so the anticipation mode in this version is more directed at suspense and emphasised by the lack of smorzando in bars 534-539;
- the EE, which combines all markings of the other sources, may also be interepreted slightly different.
To sum up, since we are deprived of any possibility to verify Chopin's true intentions (possibly inconsistent), we are forced to only guess what it should be and at the same time allows us to somewhat freely search and find our own, logical and evocative vision of this transitional part.
