The version of EE, unconfirmed by any other sources, may raise doubts as to its authenticity. A possible mistake could have resulted, e.g., from Chopin's manner of writing both components of the second vertically. Most probably, however, this is an authentic variant of the text, as:
- in bar 166, where that motif appears for the first time, the ninth chord occurs in all sources;
- in the analogous bar 460 EE also has the ninth chord, and it is hardly possible that an identical error was made in two graphically different places.
Due to the fact that the version of GC (→GE) and FE, based probably on [A2], is arguably later, we take it as our main text.
