b. 38-39

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

cresc. in A (interpretation in context)

The word broken into syllables in EE

..

The term cresc. is written in A between the 3rd beat of bar 38 and the 1st beat of bar 39. In GE (→FEEE) it was placed at the end of bar 38. Because of the division into lines and the concern for the legibility of the text, we place it in bar 39. Cf. bars 47, 101 and 109. In EE the word was broken into syllables; although Chopin sometimes wrote it that way, in this instance it is the editor's adjustment.
