Issues : Corrections in A

b. 1

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

..

At the beginning of the bar in A one can see a deleted  before e1. The need to put that sign could, in our opinion, result from the uninterrupted transition in writing - perhaps also performing - from the Mazurka in G minor  to the Mazurka in C major.

b. 7-11

composition: Op. 24 No. 2, Mazurka in C major

..

A bears traces of corrections made in the 1st  crotchet of the L.H. in bars 7 (erasure)  and 11 (crossing-out). In bar 11, Chopin replaced the chord f-a-dwith the third d1-f1. Traces of his intervention in bar 7, although less clear, also point to the same change. A corresponding correction was also introduced by the composer in all the analogous bars39, 43, 91 and 95.

There are erasures visible over the R.H. part in A. One of the reasons behind that correction was to shorten the slur that commenced in the previous bar (a similar correction can be seen in bar 48). Chopin probably also removed the accent above the 3rd crotchet, perhaps in connection with placing it between the staves.

A bears the traces of deleted pedal markings in this bar. Considering that this bar differs from the analogous bar 25 by a single note only, one could suspect a misunderstanding here, yet the basic assumption that should be made is that Chopin actually wanted to add variety to one of the four similar phrases.
