..

Diversification of a motif by breaking up longer values - in this case by a quaver leap an octave down - is very characteristic of Chopin.

b. 12

composition: WN 55, Waltz in F minor

..

In the autographs, there are 3 different versions of the L.H., differing in the topmost element of the chords on the 2nd and 3rd beats of the bar:
a-b-fand a rest in AO
- doubly repeated a-b-fin AK
- doubly repeated a-b-din the remaining sources: AR, AE (→CX), AG (→CY), CC, F

b. 12

composition: WN 55, Waltz in F minor

..

Due to the previously appearing natural next to d2, next to the group of grace notes at the beginning of the bar, AO does not include a cautionary natural before d2. The remaining sources do feature a natural in this place, whereas AK even for a second time in this bar.

The majority of the sources include the doubly repeated a-dfourth. In AK and F, there is a different version of the L.H.: on the 2nd beat - a-b-dand on the 3rd one - rest in AK, in F there is a double a-b-fand the 1st beat is prolonged to a dotted minim - it may be an editorial revision.

In CC, there is no natural next to d2 - it is a patent mistake of the copyist.
