The difference in the size of the discussed markings in A – is clearly smaller than the remaining two – points to a yet another interpretation. It is likely that
, probably written first, was supposed to be replaced by

, yet it remained unremoved due to Chopin's distraction. According to us, this is the most likely interpretation, resulting in a musically natural solution, compliant with the markings adopted by GE (→FE,EE,IE). We provide this version in the main text.
