The indication espressivo is written in the sources in the form of an abbreviation: espres. in A, espress. in FC (→GE), FE and CGS and esp. in EE. In the main text we explain the abbreviation, which was probably used due to lack of space in A to write an entire word.

b. 21-22

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

FE is lacking the dashes determining the crescendo's range, which is supposedly the engraver's oversight. Such errors were quite frequent in Chopin's first prints. Division of the word crescendo into syllables in EE is probably a revision of that edition (cf. bars 25-26), although such a notation can also be found in Chopin's autographs. The abbreviation cres used by Chopin was replaced by us with the currently adopted conventional abbreviation cresc.

dolce in A

..

In GE1 (→FE) Chopin's indication dolce was abbreviated to dol. What is more, in all the editions it was placed - unlike in A – between the staves .
