Long accents in AF

Marks in FE (→EE)

..

We reproduce the short  hairpins in b. 10 and 12, whose nature is clearly the one of long accents, after AF (in FE and EE they were moved under the R.H. part). The absence of these marks in GE is probably an oversight of Chopin: in analogous b. 102-104 it is precisely GE that is the only source containing those marks.

No slur in A

Slur in FC (→GE) & FE (→EE)

..

The missing slur over the 1st L.H. figure must be Chopin's mistake. The slur was added in both sources based on A, perhaps not even having noticed its absence.

The corrections and crossings-out visible in A reveal the changes performed both to the range and the position of the  hairpin in this place (As does not contain any dynamic markings). The initial mark, written between the staves, started between the 6th and 7th quavers in b. 10, which was changed by Chopin – he moved the beginning under the last quaver in that bar. Eventually, both versions were crossed out, and a new hairpin was written over the R.H. part, which we give in the main text. Although the new mark begins at the end of b. 10, both FC (→GE) and FE2 (→EE) placed its starting point only in b. 11 – these changes cannot come from Chopin, since he did not directly participate in the publication of the Preludes after having finished A. The longest mark of CGS is most probably an arbitrary interpretation of the hairpin of FE2 by the copyist.

Staccato dot in b. 11 in GE

In the main text, we add – as in bars 9-10 – separate wedges to the :\L.H. octaves. In the discussed bars, this notation also occurs in FE (→EE). The mark in b. 12 was overlooked in FC (→GE), and the other (a wedge in b. 11) was reproduced in GE as a staccato dot.

b. 12

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

..

In FE1, a  is placed before the 4th quaver, where it has no justification. That obvious error was corrected both in FE2 and in EE. GE has the correct text as well.
