The logic of the figuration's structure and a comparison with analogous bar 235 point to a Terzverschreibung error of FE. The conclusion finds confirmation in a correction of this note performed in pencil – perhaps with Chopin's hand – in FES.

In the main text, we give the fingering written in pencil to FES (with one added digit for more clarity), coming most probably from Chopin. A different fingering, probably coming from Chopin, is in FESf. The poorly legible annotation in FEO may be interpreted in a variety of ways – we suggest these interpretations that lead to a pianistically natural fingering as variants.

The fingering in EE comes from the editor and it is inauthentic.

FE (→GE,EE) has a cas the 2nd semiquaver. It is a typical Terzverschreibung error of the engraver (or perhaps of Chopin in the Stichvorlage for FE). Chopin corrected the erroneous note in pencil in FES.
