Three-note chord in PE

Our suggestion

..

Taking into account a highly possible mistake in PE, in the main text we propose an alleged reconstruction of the version of [A]. The compatible version of JC and EF – undoubtedly authentic, although earlier – may be considered as an alternative solution.

In PE1 the treble clef is placed before the 1st L.H. crotchet. The patent mistake was corrected in GE and PE2 (→PE3PE4).

e3-g3 in PE

PE has the e3-gthird as the 2nd quaver of the bar. Admittedly, the version is acceptable, as far as the sound and piano performance are concerned, yet the enote burdens and blurs unnecessarily the melody's line; therefore, a misreading of [A] or a proofing (adding the correct note without deleting the wrong one) seem to be much more probable.

The version of PE, in which the textural and sound scheme of figurations is disrupted, according to us without any visible reason, is most probably erroneous.

It is only in EF that the lower voice on the 4th quaver of the bar is written correctly. In JC it does not appear at all (there are no quavers nor slurs), which is certainly an error due to writing the upper voice with the stems facing upwards. We do not complete this notation, as it is impossible to determine what was exactly missed by the copyist. In PE, lack of the quaver flag next to the f1-bfourth is an obvious mistake.
