b. 9-12

composition: Op. 28 No. 20, Prelude in C minor

13 bars in A (→FCGE, →FEEE), #ASch & CGS

9 bars in AB

..

Initially, the Prelude had only 9 bars, which is proven by the footnote in A according to which b. 9-12 were added at the suggestion of certain "Mr. xxx." The Prelude in its initial, 9-bar form can be found in AB, written a year after the entire Op. 28 had been finished.
In A (→FC) the discussed bars are marked in an abridged manner as a repetition of b. 5-8 (mentioning the different dynamics).

b. 9

composition: Op. 2, Variation IV, primitive version

Repetition in AsI, contextual interpretation

No repetition in A

..

The presence of two volte in bar 24 proves that Chopin envisioned in AsI a repetition of the 2nd part of the variation. In the entire piece, AsI does not include a single standard repeat sign, although in a few places – as is the case here – alternative endings of certain sections prove that repetitions were intended. See also bar 8.

b. 20-24

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major

Ending of the middle part in AI

Longer ending in A (→GE)

Tied c2 in FE (→EE)

..

Compared with AI Chopin made the ending of the middle phrase of the Mazurka in A (→GEFEEE) longer by two bars. The composer wavered as regards tying or repeating the first c2. In the main text we take account of a tie to this note added by Chopin while correcting the FE (→EE).

Cf. the comment to the L.H. and the pedalling.

composition: Op. 2, Variation IV, primitive version

Repetition of b. 9-24 in AsI

Repetition of b. 9-24 in AsI

No repetition of b. 9-24 in A

..

As in bars 1-8, in AsI it is also the entire second part that is repeated (from bar 9), as proved by two versions (volte) of bar 24 – the first one links bars 23 and 9, while the second is an equivalent of bar 24 in A.

b. 31

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

..

In FCI there is one other bar following b. 31, actually identical with the final version of b. 31 – the only difference is that the e2 minim is tied there and not played. In FCI this additional bar, which we mark as 31', differs from the previous one in the bass note having been moved an octave lower: in b. 31 it is e, while in b. 31' – E.
