Issues : No pedal release mark

b. 66

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

No  in A (→FEGE,EE)

 in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5)

..

Lack of the  mark must be considered as Chopin's oversight.

b. 66

composition: Op. 28 No. 15, Prelude in D♭ major

 in A

  in remaining sources

..

The missing  mark must be Chopin's oversight provoked by a combination of the fact that the notation of this bar is tightly packed and the fact that the bar is at the turn of the page. The mark was added both in FC (→GE) and FE (→EE).

b. 67

composition: Op. 10 No 9, Etude in F minor

No sign in AI & A (→FE)

 in GE & EE

..

Omission of the  mark at the end of the pieces is characteristic for Chopin's pedalling and is featured in numerous works, e.g., in the Etudes in C major, No. 1, C minor, No. 4, C major, No. 7, F major, No. 8, E major, No. 11. The revisers of GE and EE considered it as an inaccuracy of notation of FE.

b. 70

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

No sign in A (→FEGE1GE2)

 in EE & GE3 (→GE4)

Our suggestion

..

It is unclear whether the lack of the  mark is the notation's inaccuracy or a suggestion of continuing to use pedal as before. The additions in EE and GE3 (→GE4) were certainly performed by the revisers, therefore, we give a suggested similar solution in brackets.

b. 71-72

composition: Op. 10 No 8, Etude in F major

 in A (→FEGE1)

  in EE & GE2 (→GE3GE4)

Our suggestion

..

In bar 71 the missing  mark after  is not striking in A, in which the pedalling is not precisely indicated. However, in FE (→GE,EE) Chopin added indications in adjacent bars, hence in the main text we suggest the moment of the pedal's release (change) in accordance with the harmonic flow. In EE and GE2 (→GE3GE4), the  mark was added earlier, at the end of bar 71.
