Both in the original and final version the Etude ends without the  mark. Chopin would eagerly use such notation, additionally suggesting the sound atmosphere of the ending. The fact of adding the sign in EE is undoubtedly a revision of the editor.

The pedal marks in bars 50 and 54 were added by Chopin in a proofreading of FE (→GE1). Lack of  in bar 54 seems to be a result of an oversight, therefore, we add it under the 2nd quaver (the main text, after the pedalling of FE in bar 6) or under the 3rd quaver (an alternative suggestion, based on the pedalling of FE in bar 14 and adopted in bar 54 already in EE and subsequent GE,s).

The only pedalling mark written in AI is clearly related to the abandoned by Chopin concept of the initial theme's return, which started with the C1-C octave. See the adjacent note.

In the main text we include the  mark of FE (→EE) and add [] as in analogous bar 20. The missing indications in FC (→GE) most probably resulted from an oversight by the copyist.

In FE the  mark in bar 53 and the  mark in bar 54 were omitted. They are patent errors. In GE2 (→GE3→GE4) and in EE a  mark was added at the beginning of bar 53. In EE the  marks in bar 54 were also added. In the main text we give the only authentic pedalling of A.
