b. 44

composition: Op. 50 No. 3, Mazurka in C♯ minor

in AF (→FEEE)

Accent in GE

..

Chopin marked the transition to the B major section in two ways: AF (→FEEE) includes a  in b. 44 and a  in b. 45, while GE – an accent in b. 44 and mezza voce in b. 45. In the main text we give the markings of GE, which we consider the principal source; however, the version of AF may be regarded as an equal variant. Such a choice is also supported by the absence of traces of correction in the preserved sources, which may mean that a possible change of concept took place in [AG].

composition: Op. 50 No. 3, Mazurka in C♯ minor

No sign in AI & GE

The  hairpin is one of a few performance indications added in AF (→FEEE). According to us, it points to one of a few possible interpretations of the beginning of this phrase, hence we include it in the main text in a variant form.

b. 75-76

composition: Op. 50 No. 3, Mazurka in C♯ minor

No sign in AI

in AF

in FE (→EE) & GE

..

The  hairpin in AF seems to be inaccurate, since it overlaps with the  mark, which concerns the same phrase. Moreover, it was already considered inaccurate in FE (→EE). In the main text we give the mark of GE, compliant with the remaining editions.

b. 76-77

composition: Op. 50 No. 3, Mazurka in C♯ minor

No sign in AI & GE

in AF

in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the  hairpin written in AF. One can have doubts whether the mark should not be placed earlier, before the return of the main phrase of this section, the way it was reproduced in FE (→EE).

b. 88

composition: Op. 50 No. 3, Mazurka in C♯ minor

No sign in AI, FE (→EE) & GE

in AF

..

In the main text we include the  mark written in AF. Both here and in the next few bars this autograph includes more detailed dynamic markings. The missing hairpin in FE (→EE) is most probably an oversight.
