b. 686-689

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

No signs in A (→FCGE1, →FEEE)

 in GE2 (→GE3)

..

Just like in b. 235-238, the pair of two-bar  hairpins was repeated in GE2 (→GE3) after the authentic marks in b. 103-106.

b. 690-691

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

No sign in A (→FEEE)

in bar 691 in FC (→GE1)

 in bars 690-691 in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In the main text we give a  mark, written by Chopin in FC (→GE1) in b. 239-240, of which the discussed bars are a repetition. In GE2 (→GE3) the mark was extended so that it fills two bars (from b. 690) after the authentic  sign in analogous b. 107-108.

b. 691

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

b1-g2-b2 in A (→FCGE1, →FEEE)

b1-f2-b2 in GE2 (→GE3)

..

Due to the reasons discussed in b. 240 (the discussed bar is an exact repetition thereof), we consider the version of GE2 (→GE3) to be an acceptable variant.

b. 692-707

composition: Op. 31, Scherzo in B♭ minor

No indication in A

cresc. - - in bars 692-707 in FC & GE2 (→GE3)

cresc. - - in bars 693-707 in FE (→EE)

cresc. - - in bars 692-696 in GE1

..

In the main text we give the indication cresc. - - - written by Chopin in FC (see the note to b. 65-66) The composer added crescendo in this fragment also in the proofreading of FE (→EE); however, he began it a bar later. That version, most probably later, can be considered equivalent. GE1 reproduced the indication of FC inaccurately, since from b. 697 it overlooked the dashes marking the range of cresc. That oversight was corrected in GE2 (→GE3).

Separate slurs in A (→FC→#Wn1, →FEEE) & #Wn3

Continuous slur in GE2

..

The continuous slur in GE2 is an arbitrary, baseless revision. The original slurring was restored in GE3.
