b. 89

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

2 slurs in A

1 slur in GE (→FEEE)

..

In the main text we give the slurs that Chopin wrote in A, yet the slur of GE (→FEEE) can be considered an equal variant:

  • in similar figures in bars 7-8 and analog. Chopin would generally put one slur;
  • the slur of the editions could have been added by Chopin in the proofreading of GE1, e.g. if, initially, the engraver generally overlooked slurs in this place.

b. 89

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

 whole bar in A

 half bar in GE (→FEEE)

..

The shorter  hairpin in the editions is most probably a result of inaccuracy of the engraver of GE1, who, wishing to avoid troubles with fitting in such a long sign, could have considered its earlier beginning to be superfluous in the face of the verbal crescendo indication.

b. 89-90

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

Continuous slur in A

2 slurs in GE (→FEEE)

..

The fact of breaking the slur in the editions is certainly an example of the manner of the engraver of GE1, who would avoid long slurs and adjust them to metric structures, in this case bars – see also bars 90-91.

b. 89

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

..

In the main text, we add cautionary flats before d1 and b1, and we omit the flats before b2 and d3, present in the sources on the last beat of the bar.

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

Slur up to bar 91 in A

Shorter slur in GE (→FEEE)

..

A shorter slur in GE (→FEEE) – contrary to the unequivocal notation of A – is certainly a result of inaccuracy of the engraver of GE1.
