b. 38

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

..

The last note of the 1st half of the bar (b) was corrected in A, while the effect of these changes turned out to be unclear for the engraver of FE who found there c1. The mistake was corrected both in GE and EE.

b. 39

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

f1 in A

a1 in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The f1 quaver written in A was changed to a1 in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). According to us, there is no doubt that the proofreading was performed by Chopin, who also corrected a mistake on the last quaver in the R.H. and added the pedalling in the same bar.

b. 39

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

Octave in A

Sixth in FE (→GE,EE)

..

Despite the fact that the a2-a3 octave is possible as far as the sound is concerned (cf. the Prelude in F minor, Op. 28 No. 8, bars 6 and 20), Chopin's mistake seems to be almost certain here, even due to the pianistic issues. The conclusion is confirmed by Chopin's proofreading performed in this place in FE (→GE,EE).

b. 40

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

..

In A (→FE) there is no  raising d2 to d2 on the 5th quaver and the  lowering g1 to g1 on the 11th quaver. These patent errors were corrected in GE and EE.

b. 43

composition: Op. 10 No 10, Etude in A♭ major

f4 in A & GE

f3 in FE (→EE)

..

The longer octave sign in A is almost certainly Chopin's mistake. The error reached GE, where it remained unnoticed, through a proof copy of FE. In the last proofreading of FE (→EE), f4 was changed to f3, probably on the composer's request.
