b. 93

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

c repeated in A (→GCGE, →EE,FE1FE2)

c tied in FE3

..

The decision to sustain c in FE3 may have come from Chopin. However, as the authenticity of some of the changes introduced in this impression raises serious doubts, in the main text we give the version of A (→GC) and of the remaining editions.

b. 97-98

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

..

In GC (→GE1) the crotchets in the middle voice of the R.H. – both in bar 97 and the first in bar 98) – are written without the extending dots. The subsequent impressions of GE correct this patent oversight.

b. 98-99

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

g1 repeated in A (→FE,EE)

g1 tied in GC (→GE)

..

The tie to g1 in GC is thicker and more rounded than ties written by the copyist, at the same time it resembles closely the usual shape of Chopin's ties.. Therefore, it is very likely that Chopin added it in GC (→GE).

Dots in A (→FE,EE) & GE

No dots in GC

..

GC overlooks the extending dots next to c1-e1 crotchets on the 2nd beat in the R.H. GE corrected this oversight.
