Chopin added the cresc. indication in a proofreading of FE. Both in GE and in EE the word crescendo was divided into syllables.

b. 62-63

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

 in A

cresc. in FE (→GE)

..

At the time of proofreading FE (→GE,EE), Chopin changed the dynamic concept of these bars, which we include in the main text. In GE the word crescendo was divided into syllables and in EE the dashes determining the range of the indication were omitted.

b. 63-64

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

poco rall. in A (→FEGE,EE)

rit. in FED

..

In FED at the beginning of bar 63 there are two very difficult to read entries made in pencil. The inscription over the part of the R.H. probably means rit., this interpretation seems to be confirmed with the deletion of poco rall. at the end of bar 64. Big, yet faintly sketched inclined letters could mean , but this reading is highly uncertain. It is also possible that the inscription is just another rit. In this situation, as the version of FED we give only rit.

b. 64

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

No indication in A (→FEGE,EE)

suggested by the editors

..

According to us, it is not certain, whether Chopin fully controlled the relation of the cresc. added in a proofreading of FE and  from A (the latter appears in FE at the beginning of the new page). Therefore, we suggest a possibility of adding a dim.
