In CLI the crotchets in the L.H. in bars 19 and 21-24 are undoubtedly the original version – in FEcor Chopin replaced the majority of them with quavers with rests (except for the 2nd half of bar 24). The later version (apart from the last chord in bar 22) is also included in Ap, which may suggest Chopin's hesitation.

The  hint at the beginning of the bar is both in Ap and in the editions (added in one of the later proofreadings of FE). However, the presence of the sign in FE (→GE,EE) raise doubts whether Chopin's intention was correctly reproduced.

In the main text we give the dots with which Chopin provided all quavers in these bars in FEcor. Ap also includes staccato signs – alternating wedges and dots – yet only over four bass notes in bars 19-21.

In none of the authentic sources the notation of the accidentals in the part of the R.H. is entirely correct in these bars – particularly in bar 19. However, the inaccuracies do not pose problems in establishing the correct text. Moreover, in all sources except for Ap the unnecessary  before f2, the 14th semiquaver in bar 20, is repeated.

Fingering numeral in Ap

Fingering in FE (→GE,EE)

In the main text we give the fingering written by Chopin in FEcor. FE (→GE,EE) reproduced it with small imprecision, commented separately: '2' was omitted at the beginning of bar 20 and three digits in bars 25 and 26. In these bars Ap has only one fingering digit, '1' at the end of bar 26.
