b. 7-8

From among three analogous phrases (bars 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10), the slurs in bar 8  – the upper one a phrase mark, the lower one having an articulative-energetic function - are written the most accurately in A (→GE1). It is worth noting that the upper slur in those bars – even in its shortest version – relates not only to the upper voice, but to the entire phrase consisting of two, only seemingly independent voices. In our opinion, this observation is of major significance for determining which of the three notations used by Chopin is most adequately suited to the structure of the music. The proofing of GE2 (→GE3) reflects the reviewer's belief that Chopin was leading two independent voices.

The absence of the slur in FE (→EE) is an evident mistake.
