In bars 90 and 92 and in their written-out repetitions, the 1st R.H. chord has three versions in PE. None of them seem authentic:

  • the first one contains a non-Chopinesque, alternating set of parallel major and minor chords,
  • the second and third ones are a revision, introduced in stages, on an unidentified basis; there is nothing to indicate that this version could have reflected any authentic intention of the text.

In the main text we give the version of GE, which, according to us, is the most likely reconstruction of [A], performed on the basis of PE1.

b. 103

composition: WN 29, Waltz in E minor

..

The cautionary  to gis present in the sources only the first time, in bar 103. It is difficult to say whether it was overlooked in bar 103/127 or added by the reviser in bar 103. In the main text we include this accidental.

f or d in PE1 (→PE2)

f in GE & PE3 (→PE4)

The version of PE1 (→PE2) – f in bar 111 and d in bar 111/135 – the latter must be a mistake by the engraver, corrected – most probably on the basis of a comparison with bar 111 – in GE and PE3 (→PE4).

b. 124

composition: WN 29, Waltz in E minor

..

In PE this bar opens a new page. In the L.H. part the previous bar ends in the treble clef, yet in the discussed bar at the beginning of the line there is a bass clef in PE1, followed immediately by a treble clef. This unnecessary complication resulted from a bass clef having been placed by mistake at the end of bar 123, which was then removed, still in PE1 (one can see traces of this mark). In PE2 this version was simplified by placing a treble clef right at the beginning of the bar. In GE, in which – as in our transcriptions – both bars fall in one line, no clefs are necessary here. While performing the correction in PE2 the arpeggio mark before the L.H. chord was removed by mistake.

Arpeggio sign in PE1 (→GE)

No sign in PE2 (→PE3PE4)

..

The missing arpeggio in PE2 (→PE3PE4) is a side effect of ordering the notation of clefs at the beginning of this bar, which in PE opens a new page of text (see the note above).
