Issues : Triplet slurs
b. 1-3
|
composition: Op. 30 No. 2, Mazurka in B minor
..
In bars 1 and 3, in the main text we omit the slurs present in FC (→GE), being part of the triplet marking – cf. General Editorial Principles, p. 16. They are absent in FE, although it seems unlikely that Chopin would have bothered to remove them while proofreading this edition. In subsequent bars, none of the sources includes such slurs. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Triplet slurs |

b. 4

composition: Op. 28 No. 15, Prelude in D♭ major
..
In the main text we omit the additional slur being a part of the marking of the irregular group – cf. General Editorial Principles, p. 16. The same applies to b. 23 and 79. category imprint: Editorial revisions issues: Triplet slurs |

b. 4
|
composition: Op. 23, Ballade in G minor
..
In the main text we omit the additional slur over the triplet entered into A – cf. General Editorial Principles, p. 16. The slur was omitted (removed?) already in FE (→GE,EE). In the next bar, Chopin omitted such a slur already in A. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Triplet slurs |

b. 5-6

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major

Here and in analogous bars 9-10 our main text repeats the slurring of A (→GE→FE→EE). However, in the editors' opinion it is possible that a longer slur in AI better reflects Chopin's idea of articulation and phrasing in these places. This is supported by the comparison with analogous bars 29-30 & 33-34, where A has slurs corresponding just to the notation of AI. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Triplet slurs |

b. 10-12
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major
..
Slurs—and other performance markings—differ in AI from the later A version. In A Chopin wrote down two slurs (no account taken of a slur linked with the triplet—see below) but placed the beginning of the second one in such a way that it may be regarded as he would like to link it to the first. It was thus understood in GE (→FE→EE) which give one slur. Starting a new slur after a pause which stops the flow of music seems more natural. According to the General editorial principles, p. 16, in the main text we omit a slur over the triplet in bar 10. We also supplement a slur ending overlooked in A (→GE→FE→EE) in bar 12 (2a volta). category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , Triplet slurs |
