The asterisk mark  can only be found in EE. We give it in our main text despite the fact that editorial revision cannot entirely be ruled out here. In practice, the pedal can be depressed a little longer, until the sustained notes c and c2 resound completely.

Lack of the pedal release mark depressed in the middle of bar 42 must be considered as the notation's inaccuracy in this context. The  mark was added in EE and GE2 (→GE3→GE4) at the end of bar 42, which is undoubtedly justified with similar indications in the previous bars. We suggest a completion after the notation of A at the beginning of bar 44.

The  marks written in A in bars 44 and 46 mean – same as in bar 33 – pedale come prima. Due to the fact that in analogous bars 25-28 Chopin marked a detailed pedalling, in the main text we suggest an addition based on these indications. The  marks appearing in the editions are certainly an addition of engravers or revisers.
