b. 24-26

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

dim. - - in bar 24 in A (→FEEE)

dim. - - - in bars 24-26 in FC

No indication in GE

..

In the main text we reproduce the range of cresc. marked with dashes in accordance with the notation of A (→FEEE). Dashes running almost until the end of b. 26 in FC was an arbitrary decision of Fontana or perhaps a mistake – the dashes in FC end more or less in a place where they would have ended if they had been written in A a line lower. The omission of the entire indication in GE is a patent mistake.

b. 24

composition: Op. 28 No. 11, Prelude in B major

No pedal in A, contextual interpretation

  in FC (→GE) & FE (→EE)

..

In the 1st half of the bar, the only mark in A is a , without a , which should precede it. Both FC (→GE) and FE (→EE) considered it an oversight and added a  at the beginning of the bar. However, it may be likely that Chopin's mistake consisted in placing the  asterisk cancelling the  mark from b. 21 too far and leaving it there (not crossing it out), in spite of adding the right  mark at the end of b. 22. We consider this interpretation to be more likely and give it in the main text.

b. 24-25

composition: Op. 28 No. 17, Prelude in A♭ major

in A

  in FC (→GE) & FE (→EE)

..

The version of A – without  asterisks in the second halves of the bars – seems to be intended by Chopin, who crossed out the  under the 6th quaver in b. 24. However, one cannot rule out the composer's mistake – the crossing-out means that the  placed analogously to the one in the 1st half of the bar is wrong, since the entire 2nd half is based on one chord (D major). Chopin could have planned to add it somewhere else, probably later, which he, however, did not do due to distraction. Due to the above reason, in the main text we give the pedal markings as supplemented by Fontana both in FC (→GE) and FE (→EE).

b. 25

composition: Op. 28 No. 24, Prelude in D minor

..

In A there are no naturals raising b to b. The patent inaccuracy was corrected in FC (→GE) by adding a  only before the grace note, while in FE (→EE) in the way adopted in the main text.
