The articulation of the accompanying two-note chords, extended in Ap in bars 9-10 and 13-15, seems to be a one-time exclusive idea or a certain transitional phase in the shaping process of the Etude's text.

f in FC (→GE) & EE1

in FE & EE2 (→EE3)

..

Both versions of the 1st note of this bar are undoubtedly authentic, yet determining which one could have been considered final by Chopin faces major difficulties. The version with f seems to be later, as in FC one can see a correction in which the composer most probably deleted and added f, whereas a similar correction was most probably also in the base text to EE. However, while proofreading FE later, Chopin did not introduce this change, in spite of the fact that he corrected the last chord in bar 8, positioned just next to it (1 cm). Therefore, in the main text we follow the version of the base source, i.e. FE.

Chord in AsI, later version

Unwritten rest in A (→GEFE,EE)

At the end of the later version of the orchestral introduction added to AsI, there is also the 1st bar of the solo piano part, which differs in detail from both the final and the original version, written in the main sequence of #ApI. In particular, at the beginning of the bar there is a R.H. crotchet chord, which we cite as evidence of Chopin's hesitation – this chord is present neither in the earlier version of #ApI nor in the latest version, prepared for printing.

composition: Op. 29, Impromptu in A♭ major

..

In A the 3rd quaver was changed twice: from e1 to cand back to e1. In A, the rejected version with cin the base text for EE was not corrected by Chopin. FE also has the final version (e1).

b. 10

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

In A one can see corrections on the 2nd beat of the bar – the R.H. figure was crossed out and rewritten on the stave above. Chopin wanted to change the enharmonic notation of the 5th and 6th demisemiquavers from f2-d2 to e2-c2; eventually, however, when writing the 6th demisemiquaver as c2, he again changed his mind and returned to d2 (he introduced the change of f1 to e1 also in the L.H.).
